Volkswagen recalls more than 100,000 hybrid vehicles globally

Reuters reported that a Volkswagen Group spokesman said that due to the risk of fire, Volkswagen will have to recall more than 100,000 plug-in hybrid vehicles worldwide.

Moreover,  these 100,000 models include not only Volkswagen brand models but also Seat, Skoda, Audi, and other models. Approximately 42,300 Volkswagen Passat, Golf, Tiguan and Arteon owners worldwide will be notified. Volkswagen Audi also had to recall 24,400 vehicles.

A VW spokesman added that the battery can get hot during use due to a hidden layer of insulation in the vehicle’s battery, which can cause a fire, and that such a hybrid (a vehicle that connects a traditional internal combustion engine to an electric drive system and needs to be charged) there is a risk of fire.

Moreover, German daily Bild quoted the regulatory body (KBA) as saying that “improperly designed engine covers could lead to engine contact with hot parts, which could lead to fires”, adding: So far, Germany has reported 16 cases of affected case.
