Moreover, a display industry source said Samsung proposed to BOE the idea of producing panels for its next flagship smartphone at the end of March, and is currently discussing technical validation and signing a contract with the Chinese panel maker.

BOE is the world’s largest display maker with a 20% market share of OLED and LCD panels. Samsung Electronics plans to release new foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, in August 2022, with panels for the company’s previous foldable models provided by Samsung Display.

Furthermore, BOE will become a panel supplier to Samsung Electronics by supplying large LCD panels to Samsung Electronics. Previously, large LCD panels were exclusively supplied by Samsung Display.

Samsung Electronics asked BOE to verify its technology first. Experts said that the key lies in whether BOE can meet technical quality requirements such as thermal shock and life testing.

Chen Yanshun, chairman of BOE, stated in his speech in the 2021 annual report that BOE’s market share in five major application fields including mobile phones, tablets, laptops, monitors, and TVs continued to rank first in the world. It is a milestone in the successful realization of the monthly shipment of flexible AMOLED products in the tens of millions.
