It is reported that OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi will advance this process in stages starting from April 2022. The first stage is as follows: from April 2022, new apps on the OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi app stores are not allowed to be listed separately as 32-bit app packages, but can be uploaded using compatibility packages or dual packages; game apps are temporarily unrestricted.
The alliance says 64-bit architecture is critical to improving the end-device experience. The latest flagship mobile chip platforms, such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8Gen 1 platform and the MTK Dimensity 9000 platform, require 64-bit applications to perform at their best. In the future, mobile chip platforms will gradually weaken the support for 32-bit applications.
Moreover, supporting 64-bit devices is the only way for Android applications to utilize more than 4GB of RAM address space, utilize wider registers and higher precision in data processing, and obtain enhanced security features. As early as 2017, the iOS platform completely abandoned 32-bit apps and fully realized 64-bit.
