Samsung Electronics is studying plans to install MediaTek APs on high-end smartphones Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23 to be launched in the second half of 2022, which means that the market share of Exynos APs produced by Samsung Electronics’ foundry division will further decline.

So far, Samsung Electronics has used Qualcomm APs and Exynos APs on high-end smartphones. In the field of mid-to-low-end smartphones, MediaTek APs are partly used to reduce unit prices and improve price competitiveness.
If the rumors are true, this will be the first time that Samsung Electronics’ high-end smartphones will be equipped with MediaTek’s APs. It is expected that about half of the Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23 sold in Asia will use MediaTek’s APs.
For more than 5 years, MediaTek’s market share outside China has remained at around 10%. In order to expand its market share, MediaTek is vigorously promoting the plan to install its AP on Samsung Electronics’ smartphones.
At the same time, Samsung Electronics is facing difficulties in advancing the adoption of the Exynos series of APs. The Samsung Galaxy S22 launched in early 2022 is not equipped with Exynos, but Qualcomm AP. Sam Mobile points out that this is a symbolic event for the reliability of the Exynos family of APs.
An industry source said: “If Samsung Electronics wants to save the Exynos chip, it must develop high-performance products that are more competitively priced.”
