Mercedes-Benz Q1 global sales decline 15%, but pure electric models surged 210%

According to the latest report, Mercedes-Benz has now announced its first-quarter global sales. Data show that in the first quarter of 2022, sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles fell by 15% year-on-year to 501,600 vehicles, mainly due to semiconductor bottlenecks.

From the data point of view, the best-selling model of Mercedes-Benz this quarter is still the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which sold 100,400 vehicles in a single quarter, accounting for 25%. Sales of electric vehicles rose 37 percent to 67,800 in the first three months of the year, accounting for 15 percent of May’s total, the company said.

In addition, driven by EQA, EQS, and EQC, Mercedes sold 21,900 pure electric vehicles in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 210%; plug-in hybrid sales of 45,900 also set a new record.

Britta Seeger, a member of the Mercedes-Benz Group Management Board and responsible for marketing and sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, said, “In a challenging first quarter, we more than tripled our sales of pure electric vehicles and Excellent performance in the premium segment. We will launch the new EQS SUV on April 19 to further accelerate the electrification transition.”

In China, the largest single market for Mercedes-Benz, and the home market in Europe, sales in the first quarter fell by 14% year-on-year to 192,700 and 151,000 vehicles, respectively. Meanwhile, U.S. sales fell 20 percent to 62,300 vehicles, according to Mercedes-Benz.

Furthermore, Mercedes noted that despite ample demand for its vehicles, the overall situation remains volatile due to the “unstable political environment and prolonged lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
