Google has confirmed its support for the “Right to Repair” campaign and has partnered with iFixit to launch a self-repair program for Pixel users. iFixit announced in a blog post that they will be rolling out the Pixel Self Repair Program in summer 2022. The Self Repair Program and its components will be available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and EU countries.

Moreover, the program will provide key components such as the battery, camera, and display, as well as common parts for repairing Pixel smartphones, which will be available separately. Pixel users who haven’t done DIY repairs will need to purchase these components as part of a “repair kit.”

Furthermore, iFixit’s Pixel device repair kit will come with all the tools needed for repairs, including a screwdriver, spudger, and iOpener. The iOpener is a calibrated heating device designed to apply heat directly and evenly to the parts of the phone that are joined by an adhesive.

The kit will also include an adhesive for re-waterproofing the phone, a set of six opening picks, an iFixit opening tool, suction cups, beveled tweezers, and a precision drill bit tool with an integrated SIM eject tool, and 4mm precision drill bits designed for specific models.

Google has said that all future Pixel series smartphones will be automatically included in the self-repair program. In addition, Google is offering five years of security updates for the latest Pixel 6 series devices to help extend the life of Pixel smartphones.
