Microsoft’s Edge browser Canary brings new update

According to the latest report, the latest version of Microsoft’s Edge browser Canary brings a new useful feature to Web applications.

With the new feature, users can directly let the PWA app “handle” the link. In other words, you can now directly click on a link in a program to call out the application in one step and avoid opening the browser to jump.

For example, You can click on a message with a YouTube link in Telegram. Windows will then automatically open this page in the YouTube PWA app instead of jumping to the web page in the browser.

Moreover, if you want to turn on this feature, you only need to do the following:

  • Update Microsoft Edge Canary to the latest version and make sure Edge Canary is your default browser.
  • Install a web application, such as YouTube or Reddit, by clicking the button in the address bar.
  • Go to edge://flags/#edge-webapp-link-handling and select Enable.
  • Restart your browser.

  • Go to edge://apps, find the web application you need, and click Details.

  • Try opening a link to a website installed as a web application.

It’s worth noting that this feature seems to be a bit buggy. For example, Edge Canary can’t hit the YouTube share link (youtu. be) in PWA, but it has no problem launching the web app using the regular youtube.com link.
