Amazon’s streaming IMDb TV service will be renamed Freevee
Three years ago, Amazon jumped into the video streaming market with the launch of IMDb TV, which supports ads. Now IMDb TV has a new name. IMDb TV will be rebranded as Amazon Freevee on April 27.
Why take such a name? Amazon says it more closely reflects the free nature of the service. There are many services that compete with Amazon Freevee in the US, such as Paramount Global’s Pluto TV, Crackle, Tubi, and Roku Channel.

It’s clear that Amazon is going two-pronged to grab the streaming pie. The first is the Prime Video service, which requires a paid subscription to watch. Then there’s Amazon Freevee, which is free but with built-in ads.
But as of May last year, Amazon’s advertised video content totaled 120 million monthly active viewers across IMDb TV, Twitch, live sports channels, and others. It is reported that Amazon will add more original TV and movie content to Freevee this year.
