Changes and Improvements
[General]
-
Microsoft is now offering new builds to Windows Insiders for Lenovo PCs in China, starting with Build 22598. These users need to be connected to the Internet for at least 15 minutes to have Lenovo PC Manager automatically update to the latest version (5.0.0.3292 or later) to receive critical fixes for the app.
-
Microsoft is trying to automatically launch the Start app after some Windows Insiders upgrade to help people get started with their PCs.
-
[Reminder] As described by Microsoft, Windows Insiders using the Dev channel may try out new ideas, long-term leading features, and experiences that may never be released. In this build, a small number of beta testers will be the first to see these experimental features, as Microsoft explores more ways to help people discover and quickly access the content they care about on the web through the Windows search box.
[Windows Spotlight]
- Microsoft is experimenting with Windows Spotlight on the desktop as the default background on new devices (clean installs using ISO images) and on upgrades, the Windows 11 default background. Microsoft is first trying the experience with a limited number of Windows Insiders.
-
Windows Spotlight shows a beautiful background with a context menu to like or dislike the background and switch to a different background.
Microsoft is also experimenting with displaying 4K desktop backgrounds in Windows Spotlight. Initially limited to a small number of Windows Insiders.
[Mission Board]
- Updated the tooltip on the volume icon to tell you when to use spatial sound.
Media Player: Improved library experience and new video playback features
Today, Microsoft began rolling out a new update for the Windows 11 Media Player media player (version 11.2203.30.0) to Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel.
When browsing the collection, users can now switch between two different views of the artist page. One view shows all albums in a grid; another view shows all songs, grouped by album.
Moreover, Microsoft has also added quick actions for albums, artists, videos, and playlists, which can be quickly selected and played when users hover over them.
There is also now a handy context menu available if the user right-clicks on the playback screen. From here new files can be opened without navigating to another page. Users can also quickly access the current song’s album page and artist page.
Furthermore, Microsoft has also added a new “Video Enhancement” feature that allows adjusting the brightness and contrast of videos.
In addition to these new features, Microsoft also plans to improve the performance of Media Player for users with very large music libraries.
