CD Projekt RED announced that it had postponed the release date of the next-generation version of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt“, it did not give a new release time, leading to widespread speculation that the project may be in some kind of development impasse among.
However, on yesterday’s earnings call, Michał Nowakowski, CDPR’s vice president of business development and board member, said that wasn’t the case. I would say that one of the hot news that I’ve been showing on the Internet actually caught my attention and that’s the next-gen game of The Witcher 3 being delayed indefinitely, which sounds like the game is going into some kind of development problem.

I would say this is a bit of a misunderstanding. There’s been a lot of hints that we’ll be releasing in June or something, but that’s not the case, we’re all about developing the game better in-house at the moment. The next generation of The Witcher 3 will also be done in-house.
We’re evaluating our development time, it’s going to take a little time to investigate, that’s what we’re going to say. No one is saying the game will be delayed. There’s only so much I can say about the next generation of The Witcher 3, but I really want to emphasize that fact.
During the conference call, CD Projekt RED president and co-CEO Adam Kiciński also said that The Witcher 3 next-gen title will take about 15 in-house developers to complete.
In addition, CD Projekt RED also said that the multiplayer mode of “Cyberpunk 2077” was cut off. CDPR CFO Piotr Nielubowicz revealed that the studio will not use in-house technology to develop multiplayer games, and that future game projects will be based on Unreal Engine 5.
For the past few years, we’ve been working on developing our own multiplayer technology, but recently decided to strategically partner with Epic Games and use Unreal 5 to complete advanced multiplayer development, so we stopped further development of our own technology, and invested nearly $4.9 million respectively.
Moreover, the company shared new data in its 2022 report and announced some significant progress. Cyberpunk 2077 has now surpassed 18 million digital and physical sales. The “Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” sales have exceeded 40 million copies, and the sales of the entire “Witcher” series have exceeded 65 million copies.
Additionally, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the first story expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 will launch in 2023. Studio president Adam Kicinski said multiple teams were involved in the development of the expansion.
