“We’re not going to lose any jobs because of the transition,” said Oliver Zipps. “Eventually, our Munich plant could be completely transitioned to electric vehicle production in this decade without anyone losing their jobs .”

However, the European auto industry and some prominent economists have warned that plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles will lead to mass job losses.

It is worth mentioning that at a recent roundtable meeting in New York, Zipps reiterated his position of “opposing a complete ban on the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles”, and said that there is still a market for fuel vehicles, and BMW will not give up the suspension of internal combustion engine vehicles. “If someone can’t get an electric car for some reason, but needs a car, his choice shouldn’t be an old car.”

At the BMW annual financial report annual meeting in March, the BMW Group announced that the electrification process will be accelerated: mass production and trial production of pure electric models will reach 15 in 2022; Start trial production in 2024 and debut in 2025.

By the end of 2025, the BMW Group plans to deliver 2 million pure electric vehicles worldwide. By 2030, BMW’s cumulative sales of pure electric vehicles in the world will exceed 10 million.
