Global smartphone wholesale ASP crossed $300 in 2021, the highest price in the smartphone industry since 2013. South Korea and Japan have the highest average selling prices for smartphones, while Africa and the Asia Pacific have the lowest average selling prices.

So far in 2020, Japan has been the country with the highest wholesale smartphone ASP. But in 2021, South Korea occupies the No. 1 spot in the world. The rapid popularity of Samsung’s higher-priced folding screen phones in the Korean market is the main reason for the skyrocketing ASP.

Taking into account the technological innovation advantages of companies such as Samsung, South Korea is expected to maintain its lead over Japan in smartphone ASP by 2027. By contrast, Japan’s regulation of smartphone subsidies has limited smartphone price growth in recent years.

It is worth mentioning that, according to previous Korean media reports, thanks to the strong demand for foldable mobile phones and flagship mobile phones, Samsung Electronics’ average selling price (ASP) of smartphones in the first quarter of this year hit a new high in six years

Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone maker, sold an average smartphone of $292 in the January-March period, up 8.5% from the same period last year and up 20.7% month-on-month. This is the highest value since the second quarter of 2014 ($297). Samsung Electronics’ smartphone ASPs from 2017 to 2019 were $243, $251, and $247, respectively.
