Netherlands plans to invest 1.1 billion euros to support development of photonic integrated circuits

According to the latest report, the Dutch government will invest 1.1 billion euros in the country’s photonic integrated circuit (PIC) industry through national funds and mobilize other private sector institutions to promote the development of local enterprises.

Moreover, the fund will be allocated by the industry organization PhotonDelta, and it will be used to support 200 start-ups in this field, develop basic technologies, cultivate specialized talents, expand manufacturing facilities, and explore new applications of photonic chips. The goal is to form a complete industry by 2030. Chain ecology, with an annual production capacity of more than 100,000 wafers.

Furthermore, photonic integrated circuits use traditional silicon wafer materials and processes to integrate photonic devices into microprocessors, which can transmit data more efficiently. It is also considered to be the front-end technology of future solid-state quantum processors.
