Russia’s communications regulator Roskomnadzor said earlier this month that it would take punitive measures against Google, including a ban on advertising the platform and its information resources, for allegedly violating Russian law.

Moreover, Reuters said Russia’s communications regulator accused YouTube of being “one of the key platforms for disseminating false photos of Russia’s special military operations on Ukrainian soil.”

In late March, Russia’s communications watchdog said it had drawn up two administrative cases against Google for failing to remove banned information from YouTube and blatantly promoting false content.

At that time, the Russian communications regulator said that Google repeatedly violated the rules and may be fined 8 million rubles, or a fine equivalent to 20% of Google’s annual revenue in Russia.
