Apple unveiled discontinuation of macOS Server services

According to the latest report, Apple announced today in a support document that macOS Server will be discontinued on April 21, 2022. Apple has been phasing out macOS Servers for years, and it’s finally ready to shut it down permanently.

macOS Server is designed for use with macOS and iOS devices, allowing users to easily configure Mac and iOS devices for schools, home offices, businesses, and more. macOS Server allows users to distribute various apps acquired through the Volume Purchase Program (VPP) to each device without using the user’s Apple ID. 

This allows you to install various apps obtained through VPP on iOS devices and Mac computers without having to configure an Apple ID or send invitations. Users can also migrate apps already installed on the device to the user’s Apple ID without deleting the app or user data.

Moreover, macOS Server 5.12.2 will be the last version of the app, and the macOS Server service has now been migrated to macOS. Since macOS High Sierra, popular macOS server features, including cache server, and file-sharing server, have been bundled into macOS, so separate apps are no longer required.

Existing macOS Server users can continue to download the app and use it with macOS Monterey.
