Russian law firm plans to sue Apple over Apple Pay removal

According to the latest report, the Russian law firm Chernyshov, Lukoyanov, and Partners said they will file a class-action lawsuit on behalf of Russians who believe that Apple’s closure of Apple Pay in the region caused “deliberate moral damage to people in the region”.

Users of Russian banks have reportedly been unable to use Apple Pay since February 2022, although a bug that initially allowed them to continue using the service with gift cards has also been fixed by Apple.

According to Republic World, a Russian law firm has announced that they will sue Apple over Apple Pay’s removal, though it’s unclear whether Chernyshov, Lukoyanov, and Partners actually filed such a lawsuit.

According to TASS, senior partner Konstantin Lukoyanov said his case would be based on how the rights of the Russian people were “unilaterally” and “unreasonably” violated by Apple. Lukyanov said Apple’s move must be seen as “intentional moral harm” to the Russians.

Additionally, the company is inviting anyone who believes Apple’s shutdown of Apple Pay violated their rights to join its lawsuit.
