Apple officials said that through the redesign, Apple completely eliminated the plastic film covering the iPhone case, reducing the amount of plastic used by 600 tons. The screen protector in the iPhone 13 packaging was also made from recycled fiber.

Moreover, the charger is no longer included, which is a bold change. According to estimates, Apple has saved 550,000 tons of copper, tin, and zinc ore. In fact, not only the iPhone but also the Apple iPad, Apple Watch, etc. have all removed the charging head.

Although Apple emphasizes that this move is for environmental protection because its survey shows that users often have available charging heads in their hands, and insisting on standard configuration is adding a burden to the earth.

However, this approach has also attracted a lot of criticism, after all, there will definitely be consumers who need charging heads; in addition, there are doubts that Apple’s real purpose is to save costs, and even save billions of dollars.

It was previously reported that by removing the charger and EarPods from the box, Apple has saved a total of $6.5 billion to date.

In addition, by eliminating the bonus accessories, Apple’s box is smaller, which helps to reduce its shipping costs by 40%. Some analysts calculate that Apple can save $35 per iPhone sold, but Apple does not lower terminal prices.
