Boeing 777X deliveries postponed to early 2025: Report

Reuters quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Boeing is preparing to delay the 777X project again, and the first deliveries of this model will be delayed by at least a year too early 2025.

The delay is in line with estimates given by the plane’s biggest customer, Emirates, whose president, Tim Clark, told Aviation Daily on April 7 that he expected to receive the first flight by 2025.

Moreover, aviation industry media Air Current first reported on Friday that Boeing is expected to delay its certification target until the end of 2024, or another nine to 12 months, followed by deliveries in 2025.

Furthermore, the Boeing 777X series is the latest model under development in the Boeing 777 family, which has been in development since 2013. According to public information, the 777X will have three derivative models: 777-8X, 777-9X, and 777-10X.

Boeing touts the plane as the world’s largest and most efficient twin-engine airliner. The 777X will take the design philosophy of the Boeing 787 and use new engines and an all-new composite wing.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned Boeing in a March 21 letter that existing certification schedules for the 737 MAX 10 and 777X “are outdated and no longer reflect program activity.”

Boeing had earlier said it expected to receive certification for the 777X by the end of 2023, after which deliveries could begin. When asked about the delay, Boeing responded that it remained “focused on working transparently with regulators and our customers.”

Furthermore, Boeing is also working to gain approval for the 737 MAX 10 by the end of the year and before a key safety deadline set by Congress. The FAA in March asked Boeing to provide a “mature certification timeline” for the MAX 10.
