Global EV penetration will surpass 30% by 2025: DIGITIMES

According to DIGITIMES, the demand for electric vehicle infrastructure is growing rapidly as the penetration rate of electric vehicles is expected to exceed 30% in 2025. China, the United States, and the European Union are all accelerating the construction of charging piles and other green energy facilities.

Moreover, total global vehicle sales will increase by 3.8% to 71 million units in 2021, while global electric vehicle (EV) sales more than double in the same year. In the medium and long term, sales of electric vehicles are expected to reach 29.64 million units in 2025, with a penetration rate of over 30%.

Furthermore, China has the most electric vehicles and public charging piles, with the highest ratio of charging piles/electric vehicles at 1/6, Europe at 1/11, and the United States at 1/16.

Sources from suppliers said that nearly 80% of electric vehicle chargers in the global market are CCS1, CCS2, and GB/T, and the orderly growth of the CCS (combined charging system) type is relatively stable. Among them, CCS is the mainstream in Europe and the United States, while GB/T is the national standard in China.

Currently, charger manufacturers are working hard to install more chargers and reduce the time it takes to charge. The source said that charging an electric car with a DC fast charger will likely take as long as refueling a petrol car. Therefore, the market demand for fast chargers is on the rise.

But the source added that fast-charging solutions involve high power, thus placing higher demands on the grid and safety standards. So the deployment speed of fast chargers is not as fast as that of ordinary chargers.
