Supply of automotive and power management chips still insufficient: PSMC

According to the latest report, Taiwan wafer foundry company PSMC held a shareholder’s meeting today (26th). Some shareholders are worried about whether the supply of chips is oversupplied.

The chairman of PSMC said that computer and mobile phone chips have declined, but automotive and power management Chips are still in short supply, and the company’s production capacity is still fully loaded, so there is no need to worry by the end of next year.

Moreover, Huang Chongren explained that the demand for chips is currently polarized, and the supply of chips for mobile phones and laptop computers is indeed oversupplied, but these are seasonal. It takes 5 or 6 years to build a gong factory at the fastest. The expansion will now be completed next year.

It is reported that the PSMC Tongluo factory held a ceremony on April 8. The production base includes two fabs with a designed monthly production capacity of 100,000 12-inch wafers. It is expected to complete the construction of a cleanroom by the end of the year, start the equipment installation operation and mass production in the third quarter of next year.

Looking forward to this year, Huang Chongren pointed out that in 2022, the company will improve production efficiency and increase profits through four major process technology development and operation strategies to achieve positive operational performance.
