Apple once again boosts the dictation. The new iOS 16 operating system got a new dictation feature that can save your time and will bring you back from the well of typing mistakes. Besides this function, the latest update is a complete package of new and exciting features.
Dictation is the far-fetched method to “type” quickly on iPhone by just saying the text you want to type. And with the iOS 16, this feature got an upliftment but with limitations too. Instead of typing the whole text from your fingers, Dictation allows you to use your voice for typing text.
It automatically punctuates text with commas, periods, and question marks as you speak. You can also insert emoji with your voice. For example, if you want to insert a Happy face emoji in your text then you can vocally say “Happy face emoji”.
How to use Dictation and the keyboard together:
- Move homogeneously between voice and touch to enter text
- Type with the keyboard.
- Click in the text field
- Move the cursor, and insert Quick Type suggestions, all without needing to stop dictation.

Robby Walker, Head of Siri and Language Technologies stated “Dictation lets you type just by speaking and can be much faster than typing with the keyboard”. Walker further added that these Dictation functions are handled by the iPhone, not a remote server. It’s designed to protect your privacy.
