According to the latest report, French app developers sued Apple, arguing that Apple’s App Store overcharged and violated U.S. antitrust laws.

The app developers sued Apple in Oakland, California, alleging that Apple abused its monopoly over app distribution on the iOS platform, with only one app store available for all devices.

Because of its monopoly, Apple can charge a 30% commission for 14 consecutive years and charges developers an annual fee of $99 a year. Apple also suppresses innovation and reduces consumer choices.

“There is no commercial necessity for Apple to do this, nor is it good for competition,” the plaintiffs said. “Apple’s actions would undermine innovation.” The plaintiffs asked the court to bar Apple from further harming competition and to pay triple the damages.
