After receiving the amnesty, Lee Jae-Yong has the right to succeed his late father as the head of Samsung and deal with the current challenges facing the company.
Lee Jae-Yong was convicted of bribery and embezzlement in January 2021 and sentenced to 30 months in prison. But he was released on parole in August last year after serving 18 months in prison, after which Lee was restricted from practicing for five years. But now after the amnesty, Lee Jae-Yong has restored all his rights.
South Korean President Yun Xiyue said in an interview earlier that the most important thing for this amnesty is to “focus on people’s livelihood and economic recovery.”
