Microsoft previously planned to phase out TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in October 2018, but later had to revise the schedule due to the spread of the new crown epidemic in 2020. Now, Microsoft is preparing to scrap this outdated security standard in its Internet Explorer browser and older Edge browsers.

Moreover, Microsoft has not completely disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1. For compatibility, companies that require TLS 1.0 and 1.1 can re-enable them through Group Policy or in Internet Explorer in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.

In addition, the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser has disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 as early as Edge 84. Transport Layer Security (TLS) is used to provide confidentiality and data integrity between two communicating applications. The protocol consists of two layers: TLS Record and TLS Handshake.
