Shipments of Chromebooks continued to decline, down 53% year over year, due to lower education demand in 2022, the report noted. HP took another hit in the quarter, with its worldwide shipments down 29%.

The top five global notebook computer shipments in Q2 2022 are Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple, and Acer. The specific data released by Strategy Analytics are as follows:

  • In Q2 2022, Lenovo will remain No. 1 in the notebook computer market, with shipments (wholesale) falling to 12.8 million units, down 17% from 15.5 million units in the same period last year, and down 11% month-on-month.
  • HP took another hit in Q2 2022, with notebook shipments down 29% year-on-year to 10.5 million units; the market share was below 20% for the second consecutive quarter, rare market performance since Q1 2016.

  • Apple’s macOS barely outperformed the overall market due to tight supply in the quarter; MacBook shipments were 4.8 million units, down 13% from Q2 2021 and 21% from Q1 2022.
  • Acer will maintain its fifth position in the world in Q2 2022, with its market share stable at 8% and shipments of 4.4 million, down 16% year-on-year.
