The core design of Apple’s new M3 SoC has been launched and will be released in the second half of 2023 at the earliest, according to Taiwan’s “Business Times”. Apple’s M3 chip, internally code-named “Malma”, will be mass-produced on TSMC’s N3E architecture.
The N3E is said to be an improved variant of the N3 process, also 3nm. Compared to N5, N3 can provide up to 15% performance improvement and up to 30% energy efficiency improvement, and N3E will further expand these differences.

The reports state that under optimistic conditions, the M3 chip may be launched in the second half of 2023 or the first quarter of 2024. Next year we’ll see Apple’s first 3nm chips, and as mass production begins, Apple will also import them into the A17 Bionic chip used in the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max.
The M3 can be used in products like the MacBook Air, and it’s possible that Apple could increase the display size on this model to improve cooling with a stronger cooling solution. Other potential products include an updated iPad Pro line, as well as an updated iMac, and possibly an iPad Air in the future. Like M2, M1, and M3 will again use 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores.
