It is understood that the previous version of the bill was proposed in March 2021, but was opposed by two tech industry trade groups, the Computer and Communications Industry Association, and NetChoice. Among them, Facebook’s parent company Meta and Alphabet’s Google are members of the two associations.
According to reports, the revised bill will apply to news publishers and non-network news broadcasters with less than 1,500 full-time employees and supports cooperation between agencies to conduct fairer negotiations and transactions with platforms such as Facebook and Google.
