The US rocket company SpaceX and wireless operator T-Mobile announced that the two sides will jointly host an event at 8 p.m. on Thursday to announce plans for so-called “enhanced connectivity. ” SpaceX chief engineer Elon Musk and T-Mobile CEO and president Mike Sievert will be present at the event, which will take place at SpaceX’s Starbase launch site in South Texas, where the Starship A prototype was recently installed on the launch pad there.

Neither company has disclosed further information beyond the aforementioned time and location. Musk has joked, though, that the event will offer a lot of “special stuff. ”
With so little disclosed, it’s hard to know what exactly the two companies plan to discuss. Maybe an announcement of some kind of spectrum partnership, or a teaming up to strengthen Starlink’s satellite internet connections in rural areas and expand the reach of T-Mobile’s home internet product. Of course, it’s also possible that SpaceX has struck some sort of deal with T-Mobile.
SpaceX hopes to build Starlink into a giant space-based internet system with the aim of providing internet connectivity to underserved areas of the world. Since 2019, SpaceX has launched about 2,700 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit and amassed hundreds of thousands of users.
In the low-Earth orbit satellite internet space, competition is fierce between SpaceX, British satellite operator OneWeb and e-commerce giant Amazon’s Kuiper project.
