Mercedes-Benz officially announced that production of the EQS SUV has begun at its Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama, USA. According to reports, Mercedes-Benz built a new battery factory in Bieber County, Kentucky, USA in March this year. In the battery factory, there is a production line of about 300 meters long with more than 70 workbenches responsible for the production of the battery system of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV includes 12 battery modules and an EE compartment.
Mercedes-Benz has met two key requirements of the latest U.S. subsidy policy by building its EQS SUV electric vehicle and its battery on U.S. soil, electrek reported today. But if the car wants to get subsidies, it also needs to make its starting price less than $80,000. For reference, the lowest MSRP of the Mercedes-Benz EQS is $102,310.
Mercedes-Benz launched a 7-seat EQS SUV this month, priced from $130,000, and will be available later this year. In terms of power, the all-wheel drive version of the 7-seat EQS SUV can provide 536 horsepower. The single-motor rear-wheel version has a range of 410 miles (about 659.83 kilometers), is equipped with a 107.8kWh battery, and supports fast charging (200 kW), 30 minutes from 10% charge to 80%.
