What is new gesture detection feature in Google Meet? How to enable it

Posted on

Google Meet is getting a new gesture-detection feature that spots when a user raises their hand physically and displays an indicator on the screen. Up to this point, the app has the ‘Raise hand’ button. Clicking on it lets people know when you have to say something. But with the new addition, Google is making this capability more efficient.

Eventually, the web version of Google Meet will recognize when you raise your hand in front of the camera. All you have to do is – keep your hand up for a few seconds until you see the ‘Raising your hand’ sign. Note that you need to keep your hand away from your face and body.

How to enable the gesture detection feature in Google Meet?

  • On the video screen, click on the More Options icon
  • Scroll down and select Reactions
  • Tap on the Hand Raise Gesture option

It is worth mentioning that the app will turn off the feature when you remain active on the speaker. Once you disable the speaker, it will resume the respective functionality.
