What is Gmail View Mode? How to customize it

Google has tweaked Gmail several times to make it a perfect email-sending platform for its users and one of its useful features is the View Mode that lets you customize the app layout. Yes, you can change the inbox format and pick the option as per your requirements.

Eventually, you can have all your emails aligned in one long list or separated into different sections based on priorities. All you need is some clicks on your computer, as it won’t possible on the mobile application.

How to customize the Gmail View Mode?

  1. Open the Gmail app on your computer
  2. Click on the Settings section
  3. Go to the Inbox type section
  4. Select any of these:
    • Default – Splits inbox into different tabs like Primary, Social, Updates, Promotions
    • Important First – Separates inbox into two sections – ‘Important’ and ‘Everything Else’
    • Unread First – Separates inbox into ‘Unread’ and ‘Everything Else’
    • Starred First – Separates inbox into ‘Starred’ and ‘Everything Else’
    • Priority Inbox – Separates inbox into multiple sections such as Important, Unread, Starred, and Everything Else
    • Multiple Inboxes – Gmail will add additional sections to your inbox
