What is auto-capitalization feature in Google Docs? How to disable it

Being a document-dedicated app, Google Docs has an auto-capitalization feature that lets you type in the correct casing. Eventually, you can continue proceeding with the lowercase, and it will automatically capitalize the first letter of every new sentence.

Auto capitalization is a helpful capability that remains on by default. Though, we don’t want such a pop-up to constantly occur on the screen. Hence, here is how you can turn it off.

How to disable the Auto-capitalization feature in Google Docs?

  • Open the Google Docs app on your computer
  • Select the document you want to edit
  • Choose the Tools option in the toolbar
  • Tap on Preferences
  • Uncheck the box beside Automatically capitalize words
  • Click on the OK button

Note that there isn’t any dedicated option to turn off the auto-capitalization on the phone app. Although you may visit Settings > System > Keyboard and here you can turn off the Auto-capitalization feature under the Corrections tab. However, this action will affect all the apps.
