What is ‘missing Files’ issue in Google Drive? How to resolve it
Google Drive is in headlines for a “missing Files” issue these days. Many users are reporting about the mysterious disappearance of some files with months of missing data from the app. The issue has first came into the spotlight in May 2023 and continued to haunt users since then.
Notably, the problem is showing up for those who are using the desktop app, both on Windows and Mac. Meanwhile, some individuals mentioned that the Activity section doesn’t show the files that have gone missing. It is no less than frustrating when personal data seems to be at risk.
How to resolve the Google Drive ‘missing Files’ issue?
Gladly, the tech giant has started investigating the matter and told consumers not to make changes to the root folder of their Drive. Ahead, the company cited that a limited subset of Drive for desktop users are seeing the problem and it is related to versions 84.0.0.0 – 84.0.4.0. While Google is diving into depths for a fix, you can try out these methods:
- Reinstall the Google Drive app
- Try to downgrade the app version
- Do not store any new files in the app for sometime
- Use an alternative app
- Do not disconnect your Google account from Drive
- Do not delete or try moving data to different locations
- Make a copy of this folder, if there’s enough space in the system.
