What is new Android 14 screenshot detection capability? How does it work

Posted on

Google introduced a new API that brings on the screenshot detection tool for Android 14 devices. As the name suggests, the feature notifies users when an application captures a screenshot. Perhaps, this will improve the security of your data and eliminate the need for hacky workarounds.

How does the Android 14 screenshot detection capability work?

The information reveals that Android 14 will enable the device system to alert users when someone takes a screenshot. It will further pop up a message at the bottom of the screen. For instance, if you snap a shot of a shopping app, then Android will inform you that “the app (name) detected this screenshot”.

However, things will only work when you capture a screenshot through the hardware button combo. Thus, the root modes as well as ADB-based shots will pass the detection. Still, it’s a good implementation as the app won’t require any external effort and will have more granular permission to rely on.
