How to remove symbols or icons from Samsung keyboard
Samsung keyboards come with a variety of features and customization options, but sometimes these extras can be more of a hindrance than a help. If you find the special characters or icons on your Samsung keyboard to be annoying or distracting, there are ways to streamline your typing experience. This guide will walk you through three methods to remove symbols or icons from your Samsung keyboard, ensuring a cleaner and more efficient interface.
Method 1: Turn off Special Characters in Samsung Keyboard
To prevent special characters from appearing on your keyboard, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Navigate to General Management.
- Select Keyboard list and default.
- Choose Samsung Keyboard.
- Tap Layout and turn off Alternative characters.
While this will stop special characters from displaying immediately on the keyboard, it won’t disable the long press feature, meaning accented characters will still appear if you hold down a key. Unfortunately, there is no way to completely disable special characters, but you can change the hold time to make it less likely to type them accidentally.
To adjust the hold time:
- Go to Settings.
- Navigate to General Management.
- Select Keyboard list and default.
- Choose Samsung Keyboard.
- Tap Swipe, touch, and feedback.
- Select Keyboard touch and hold delay and choose Long or set a custom time using the Custom option.
Pro Tip: Use the Keys Café module from Samsung’s Good Lock app to further customize your keyboard to your liking.
Method 2: Remove an Icon From the Keyboard Toolbar
If you want to remove specific icons from the Samsung keyboard’s toolbar, follow these steps:
- Open the keyboard.
- Tap the three-bar icon.
- Hold and drag the icon you want to remove from the toolbar to the bottom panel.
This method can also be used to remove the AI button (Stars) from the keyboard.

Method 3: Turn off the Toolbar Completely
To remove the toolbar entirely:

- Navigate to General Management.
- Select Keyboard list and default.
- Choose Samsung Keyboard and turn off the toggle for the Keyboard toolbar.
By following these methods, you can customize your Samsung keyboard to better suit your needs, reducing clutter and improving your typing experience.
