Mastering custom stickers on Samsung: a comprehensive guide

Posted on

Creating custom stickers on your Samsung device is a fun and personalized way to enhance your photos and messages. With various methods available, you can create, find, delete, use, and send custom stickers effortlessly. Whether through the Gallery app or the Samsung Keyboard, each approach offers unique functionalities tailored to your needs. Below are the steps to master these methods and make the most out of your Samsung’s sticker capabilities.

Method 1: Using Gallery

Step 1: Launch the Gallery app and open any random image or picture where you want to add the sticker.

Step 2: Tap on the Pencil (Edit) icon at the bottom and select the Gallery icon, followed by Stickers.

Step 3: Tap on the Gallery icon to go to the sticker library. Here, you can:

  • Create a sticker: Tap on the + icon to create a new sticker. Select the image to make a sticker. Your phone will automatically highlight and clip the sticker. Press the Next button. Then, select the sticker style and press Done. The sticker will be saved to the sticker library and also added to the current picture.
  • Add sticker on picture: To add the sticker to another picture, repeat steps 1-3 to open the sticker gallery using the Gallery app. Tap on the sticker to add it to the image.
  • Edit or delete sticker: Repeat steps 1-3 and long-press on the sticker to edit or delete it. While editing, you can only change the sticker style; you cannot add text or edit the sticker area you want to keep or remove.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Starting with One UI 6, Samsung has removed the option to manually select the sticker.
  • Another way to add a sticker on top of another image is by using the clipboard. Long-press an image to cut out the sticker and select Copy. Open the background picture and tap the three-dot icon, followed by Paste from the clipboard.
  • Use the lasso tool to manually select the area for the sticker. Tap the Edit button in the Gallery app and press the Four-circle icon > Lasso tool. Save the image. Then, long-press on the new image and save it as a sticker.

Method 2: From Samsung Keyboard

To send a sticker in third-party apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, etc., use the Samsung Keyboard app. You can also use it to create, edit, or delete stickers.

Step 1: Open the Samsung Keyboard in any app.

Step 2: Tap on the Emoji icon in the toolbar of the keyboard, followed by the Gallery icon to see your stickers. Select the sticker that you want to send, or long-press any sticker and select Edit or Delete.

Step 3: Press the + icon to create a new sticker and select the image from which you want to make a sticker.

Step 4: The sticker will be highlighted. Press the Next button and select the sticker style, followed by Done to save the sticker.

Note: On older versions of Samsung One UI, the sticker might be sent as an image with a black background in third-party apps. In such cases, use the native options in the apps to create a sticker or use third-party apps such as Sticker Maker and Sticker Maker by Stickify to convert the picture into a sticker.

Bonus Method: Create and Add Sticker on a Picture by Long Pressing the Picture

In the Samsung Gallery app, open the picture from which you want to make a sticker. Long-press on the subject in the picture and select Save as a sticker. Please note that this method works on One UI 5.1 and above only.

Alternatively, tap on the three-dot icon and select Save as image. The saved image will be stored in the Gallery app. Or, press the Edit icon to deselect the selected portion or to convert it into a shape.
