Key Points:

  1. Quantum Security: The Galaxy Quantum 5 features the world’s smallest quantum random number generator for advanced data protection.
  2. AI-Powered Features: Enhanced AI capabilities, including improved night photography and a unique “Circle to Search” function.
  3. Market Impact: Samsung’s mid-range strategy boosts its market share in South Korea to 76%, outpacing competitors.

Samsung has introduced six new mid-range smartphones in South Korea, with prices ranging from 225 to 440 euros. These Galaxy series phones are designed for budget-conscious consumers who still seek modern features.

The standout among them is the Galaxy Quantum 5, which incorporates the world’s smallest quantum random number generator (QRNG), developed by IDQ. This tiny chip, measuring just 2.5 x 2.5 mm, works in conjunction with Samsung Knox to provide robust security. The QRNG chip ensures that sensitive data like fingerprints and facial images are protected during login, authentication, payments, and the use of various apps—from financial services to social media and gaming. This technology offers a new level of security, especially when storing data on external devices.

Beyond its security features, the Galaxy Quantum 5 also boasts AI-powered enhancements. Notably, it includes a “Circle to Search” function and improved night photography, making it a versatile choice for users who value both security and performance. Yoo Chul-joon, head of the Smart Device CT department at SK Telecom, highlighted that the device is designed to deliver premium performance and AI capabilities at an accessible price point. The Galaxy Quantum 5 is largely based on the popular Galaxy A55 model, making it familiar yet uniquely secure.

Samsung’s focus on the mid-range market appears to be paying off. In the second quarter of 2023, the company’s market share in South Korea increased by one percentage point, reaching 76%. This growth puts Samsung 54 percentage points ahead of its closest competitor, Apple, solidifying its dominance in the region.
