Top 3 Key Points:

  1. No More Updates: Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, and Tab S7+ won’t receive further software or security updates.
  2. End of Support: These devices, launched in August 2020, are losing support after four years.
  3. Final Update: Last received Android 13 and One UI 5.1.1 updates in early 2023.

Samsung has officially ended software support for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, and Galaxy Tab S7+. These devices, which hit the market in August 2020, will no longer receive software or security updates. This marks the end of their four-year support period.

These devices stopped receiving major operating system (OS) and feature updates last year, and now, even security updates are being discontinued. Samsung typically offers security updates for a minimum of four years for devices launched from 2019 onwards. While some models like the Galaxy S20 series have received extended support into their fifth year, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and the Tab S7 series have not been given the same extension.

However, not all models in the Tab S7 series will be affected this year. The Galaxy Tab S7 FE, which was released in March 2021, will continue to receive security updates until at least March 2025. On the other hand, both variants of the original Galaxy Z Flip (including the LTE version) have now reached the end of their update cycle, with the LTE variant having stopped receiving updates in April 2023.

When these devices launched in 2020, they came with Android 10 and Samsung’s One UI 2.1. Over their lifecycle, they received three major Android OS upgrades, with the last one being Android 13, rolled out between late 2022 and early 2023. The final feature update they received was One UI 5.1.1.

This is a natural progression for Samsung, as newer devices continue to take the spotlight and receive ongoing support. Users of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, and Tab S7+ may want to consider upgrading to more recent models to continue receiving the latest software features and security enhancements.
