Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 brings easier file management but delays for 2022 Galaxy devices
Key Points:
- One UI 6.1.1 starts with 2023-2024 devices; 2022 models will get it later.
- New update improves file copying and moving with a pop-up UI.
- Older devices may see fewer features and delayed updates.
Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 Update: What to Expect and When
In early September, Samsung began rolling out the much-anticipated One UI 6.1.1 update. This new version first appeared on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 and has now started reaching the Galaxy S24 series. Other 2023 and 2024 Samsung devices will follow soon.
However, if you own a Galaxy device from 2022, like the Galaxy S22, Z Fold 4, or Z Flip 4, you may have to wait longer. Samsung’s initial rollout is focused on newer devices, and while older models will receive the update, it might take more time.
Delayed Updates for 2022 Galaxy Devices
Samsung’s press release for One UI 6.1.1 only highlighted newer models such as the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Tab S9, and Z Fold 5. This led to some confusion among users with older devices. But don’t worry—flagship models from 2022 are still in line to receive the update. The delay, however, means you might not get all the features right away, and some functions might be limited compared to what’s available on the latest devices.
Enhanced File Management
One of the standout features of One UI 6.1.1 is an improved user interface for file management, specifically in the “My Files” app. Samsung has introduced a pop-up window that appears when you copy or move files between locations on your device. This pop-up lets you easily switch between internal storage, Google Drive, and OneDrive, making file transfers quicker and more intuitive. Once the file is copied or moved, you’ll see a quick link to jump directly to the new folder.
At the moment, this new UI feature is only available on devices running One UI 6.1.1, such as the Galaxy S24 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. Older models will get this functionality when they receive the update.
Limited Features for Older Devices
While the new update brings useful features like Motion Clipper, Portrait Studio, and easier split-screen controls, devices from 2022 and earlier may not get all of these improvements. For instance, advanced AI features might be reserved for the latest models, and older devices could see a reduced feature set.
There’s also some uncertainty about whether even older devices, such as those from 2021, will receive the update. If they do, they will likely get only a minimal version of the new features.
Samsung continues to enhance its One UI experience, and though some users may need to wait a little longer, the new updates promise a smoother and more efficient experience, especially when it comes to managing files on your device.
