The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, expected to launch in early 2025, may not feature the anticipated 3x Telephoto camera upgrade. Earlier reports suggested a possible shift to a 50MP 3x Telephoto sensor, but newer information indicates that this change might not happen after all.
According to renowned tech source IceUniverse, Samsung will likely stick with the 10MP 3x Telephoto camera for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This sensor is expected to accompany the device’s impressive 200MP primary camera, a 50MP 5x Periscope lens, and a new 50MP ultrawide camera.
The 3x Telephoto camera, reportedly from Sony, will use the same IMX754 sensor as in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Although some users may have hoped for an upgrade, keeping the 3x sensor as it is may still be seen as a reasonable choice, avoiding any potential downgrade in performance.
Interestingly, while the 3x Telephoto remains unchanged, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely see an improved ultrawide sensor, which would be the main upgrade in the camera setup. This decision follows Samsung’s shift last year when the 10x Periscope was replaced by a 5x zoom solution in the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The Galaxy S25 series is expected to come in three variants: Standard, Plus, and Ultra, with a launch window set for January 2025. In addition to camera updates, the Ultra model may bring long-awaited design changes that could further distinguish it from previous generations.
This cautious approach to camera upgrades suggests that Samsung might reserve more significant improvements, particularly for the 3x Telephoto camera, for future Galaxy models.
