Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may bring back Note 20 design, S25 and S25+ to feature unusual camera setup

Posted on

Key Points:

  1. Galaxy S25 Ultra Prototype: May bring back a flat display and built-in S Pen, inspired by the Note 20.
  2. Unique Camera Design: S25 and S25+ may introduce a distinctive “double-layer” camera ring.
  3. Tech Upgrade: Expected to include Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, a 200MP camera, and new AI tools.

Samsung is rumored to be revisiting its iconic Note 20 design with the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra. According to leaks, one of the prototypes for the S25 Ultra closely resembles the Note 20, suggesting that the flat display and integrated S Pen could return. This would mark a departure from the S series’ current design, which features curved edges and sharper corners.

Galaxy S25 Ultra: A Return to Flat Design?

The Galaxy Note series was discontinued after the Note 20 Ultra, but its S Pen legacy continues in the S Ultra and Z Fold models. Now, rumors suggest that the Galaxy S25 Ultra may take design cues from the Note 20, including a flat 6.8-inch display and less angular corners. However, the camera module will retain its sleek look rather than reverting to a rectangular island.

Samsung is reportedly testing five different prototypes for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. One of these, which is closer to the final product, appears to have a strong resemblance to the Note 20. This model is expected to enter mass production soon.

Galaxy S25 and S25+: Unusual Camera Rings

While the S25 Ultra’s design may stay relatively conservative, rumors suggest that the Galaxy S25 and S25+ could feature a distinctive camera ring design. According to a leak from Ice Universe, these models might adopt a “double-layer” camera ring, giving the illusion that the lenses aren’t fully pushed into the phone’s body. This unique design choice has never been used by Samsung before and is expected to give the S25 lineup a fresh look.

However, this design may come with practical challenges. The dual-layer camera rings could potentially attract dust or snag on fabric, which could be an inconvenience for some users, although those who use protective cases may not notice these issues.

Power and Performance

On the tech side, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which is rumored to outperform Apple’s A18 Pro chip. Additionally, the phone could boast a 200MP main camera and offer enhanced AI capabilities. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy series is expected to be packed with new hardware and software upgrades, including improvements to AI-driven features.

Samsung is anticipated to officially unveil the Galaxy S25 series in January 2025, along with a new Fan Edition model, the Galaxy S24 FE, shortly.
