Android 15 and One UI 7.0: Release updates, new call features for Galaxy devices

Posted on

Top 3 Key Points:

  1. Android 15 Release: Pixel devices will receive Android 15 starting October 15, 2024.
  2. One UI 7.0 Beta: Samsung may launch the beta version of One UI 7.0 just before the Samsung Developer Conference in early October.
  3. Call Continuity Feature: Google’s new Call Casting feature is rolling out to Galaxy phones and tablets.

Google has officially released the stable version of Android 15 by uploading the source code to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This gives Samsung the tools needed to work on their One UI 7.0 update. However, Samsung has not yet announced when the One UI 7.0 Beta will be available. On the other hand, Google has already set a date for when Android 15 will be available for Pixel devices.

According to a report from Android Headlines, Google will begin rolling out Android 15 to Pixel smartphones and tablets on October 15, 2024. The update will be available for Pixel 6 and newer models. Interestingly, this release comes after Google launched the Pixel 9 series earlier than expected, as Android 15 wasn’t ready at that time.

What’s New in Android 15 and One UI 7.0

Android 15 introduces several new features, and Samsung plans to enhance these features with their One UI 7.0 update, adding even more customization and improvements. The changes are expected to be substantial, and Samsung might kick off the One UI 7.0 Beta program just before the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2024 on October 3, 2024, similar to last year’s One UI 6.0 Beta release.

Call Continuity: Google’s Call Casting for Galaxy Devices

Google is also rolling out a new feature called Call Casting, which allows users to answer calls on any device logged into the same Google account. For example, you can take a call on your Galaxy tablet even if your phone is in another room. To enable this feature, go to Settings > Google > All Services > Devices & Sharing > Cross-Device Services and toggle on Call Casting.

The call-casting feature is now available for devices running Android 11 or later and the latest version of Google Play Services (24.35.30). However, it may take a few days or weeks for this feature to reach all Galaxy phones and tablets.

Samsung’s Existing Call Features

Samsung has its call continuity feature called Call & text on other devices, which allows you to make and receive calls and messages on other devices, like your tablet, watch, or PC, as long as they are connected to the same Samsung account. To set this up, go to Settings > Connected devices > Call & text on other devices on your Galaxy smartphone.

In addition, Samsung offers Auto Hotspot, a feature that lets Galaxy devices share a Wi-Fi connection without needing a password, similar to Google’s Internet Sharing feature.

These updates are part of the ongoing enhancements in both Android and Samsung ecosystems, making device interaction smoother and more integrated. Stay tuned for more updates as Android 15 and One UI 7.0 continue to roll out.
