Samsung Galaxy S25 and S26 to continue using 50MP camera from Galaxy S22

Posted on

Key Points:

  1. Samsung will use the same 50MP camera sensor in the Galaxy S25 and S26 as in the Galaxy S22.
  2. This camera has been used across multiple Samsung flagship models, including the Fold series.
  3. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 is expected to bring only minor upgrades over the Galaxy S24.

Samsung seems to be sticking with its tried-and-tested 50MP camera sensor for its upcoming Galaxy S25 and S26 smartphones. First introduced with the Galaxy S22 in 2022, this camera replaced a smaller 12MP sensor in earlier flagship models. The upgrade was impressive then, but as this sensor is set to appear in five straight generations of Galaxy smartphones, some are questioning whether it’s time for a more significant update.

Well-known tipster Ice Universe has reported that Samsung has decided to continue using the same 50MP sensor in both the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S26. If true, this means the camera technology will remain largely unchanged for over half a decade in Samsung’s mainstream flagship lineup.

Samsung had previously mentioned that the Galaxy S25 would feature a “top-of-the-line” camera system, which now seems to focus more on software optimization rather than hardware changes. It’s also worth noting that this 50MP sensor has been used in several other flagship models, including the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Fold 5, and is still in use with the Fold 6.

Beyond the camera, early rumors about the Galaxy S25 suggest only moderate improvements over the Galaxy S24. These include a fresh camera ring design and the exclusive use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip. The charging capabilities, however, are expected to remain the same, which could leave some users looking for more significant advancements in future models.

By continuing to use the same camera hardware, it seems Samsung is focusing on enhancing other aspects of its smartphones, like processing power and design. However, many consumers may wonder when the next big leap in camera technology will arrive in the Galaxy series.
