Samsung’s Next Flagship: More expensive, more powerful

Key Points:

  • Pricier Phones: Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 series will likely be more expensive due to a new, powerful chip.
  • Powerful Chip: The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip will be used in the S25 series, offering better performance but also costing more.
  • App Store Battle: Epic Games is suing Samsung and Google over a feature that limits app downloads outside of their official stores.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series is set to be more expensive than its predecessor. This is mainly because the phones will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a more powerful processor that’s expected to cost more to produce.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is made using a newer manufacturing process that results in better performance. However, this process is also more expensive, leading to higher costs for the chip and ultimately, the phone.

Beyond the hardware, Samsung is also facing legal challenges. Epic Games, the company behind popular games like Fortnite, has sued Samsung and Google over a feature in Samsung’s One UI software. This feature, called Auto Blocker, restricts app downloads from sources other than Google’s Play Store or Samsung’s Galaxy Store.

Epic Games argues that Auto Blocker unfairly limits competition and gives Google an unfair advantage in the app market. Samsung, on the other hand, defends the feature, saying it’s important for user security.

As the Galaxy S25 series approaches its release, it’s clear that Samsung is facing several challenges. The company will need to balance the desire for a powerful, high-end device with the need to keep costs in check while also navigating legal battles.
