Samsung boosts Galaxy security with October 2024 patch

Great news for Galaxy phone and tablet owners! Samsung has released details about the October 2024 security patch, bringing important updates to improve your device’s protection.

What’s Included?

This patch tackles vulnerabilities in both the Android operating system and Samsung’s software. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Android Patches: Google identified and addressed 30 security weaknesses in Android. Two of these are classified as “critical,” meaning they could potentially corrupt your device’s memory. The remaining 28 are categorized as “high-risk.” Thankfully, Samsung already fixed one of these high-risk vulnerabilities in a previous update, and two others don’t affect Galaxy devices at all.
  • Samsung Patches: Samsung also patched 12 vulnerabilities specific to their devices and applications, known as Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVEs). These fixes address issues related to system services, Knox security features, and more.
  • Chipset Security: Samsung Semiconductor even added a patch to address a high-level vulnerability affecting specific Exynos chipsets used in some Galaxy phones and smartwatches.

When Will I Get It?

The October 2024 security patch is already rolling out to Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S24 FE was the first to receive it, and more models will be added to the update list soon. Keep an eye on your phone’s notification settings for the update availability.

Staying Secure

Installing security updates is crucial for maintaining a strong defense against cyber threats. By patching these vulnerabilities, Samsung helps safeguard your device’s data and functionality. Remember to download and install the update whenever it becomes available for your Galaxy device.
