Samsung has rolled out the October 2024 security update for the unlocked versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the United States. This update, which had already been released in Europe and for carrier-locked devices in the US, brings improvements to security and stability, addressing various issues to enhance the overall user experience.
The software update, identified by One UI build versions F741U1UES1AXIB for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and F956U1UES1AXIB for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, includes the October 2024 security patch. This patch, jointly released by Google and Samsung, addresses several critical and high-priority vulnerabilities. Specifically, Google’s patch fixes two critical issues and 28 high-level vulnerabilities, with one already resolved and two others not applicable to Samsung devices.
On Samsung’s side, 12 vulnerabilities, particularly those affecting system services and the Knox security platform, have been fixed. The update also enhances performance in Samsung Semiconductor, improving device speed and responsiveness.
How to Install the Update
If you haven’t received the update notification, you can manually check for it by going to your phone’s Settings. Scroll down to Software Update, then tap Download and Install if a new version is available.
Software and Future Updates
Both the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 are running on Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1. This new security patch marks one of the final updates before Samsung releases the first major One UI update, expected for developers by the end of 2024.
One UI 6 Beta 8 for Galaxy Watch 6 Series
In addition to the smartphone updates, Samsung has also launched the One UI 6 Watch Beta 8 update for the Galaxy Watch 6 series in the United States. This beta update, carrying the firmware version ending in ZXJ5, is focused on improving the overall user experience and system stability. Based on user feedback, Samsung has made significant improvements, including optimizing battery life for longer use on a single charge and fixing network connectivity issues to ensure a more stable connection between the watch and your smartphone.
How to Install the Beta Update
To download the beta update, open the Galaxy Wearable app on your smartphone, go to Galaxy Watch settings, then select Watch software update, and tap Download and Install. Before proceeding with the update, it’s recommended to back up your watch data to avoid potential data loss during the update process.
Beta Feedback and Future Release
As this is a beta release, Samsung encourages users to report any bugs or issues they encounter to help improve the final software. The arrival of the Beta 8 version suggests that the stable version of One UI 6 for the Galaxy Watch 6 series is close to being released.
With the combination of enhanced security for Samsung’s latest foldable devices and the continued improvement of the Galaxy Watch 6, these updates promise a smoother and more reliable user experience across devices.
