Samsung Galaxy S20 FE update and Galaxy Tab S9 AI key compatibility: New Features and Security Enhancements

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) phone, the first in the Galaxy S FE lineup, is receiving the October 2024 security update. This update, already rolling out for the S20 FE’s 5G variant in South Korea (build number G781NKSS9GXJ1) and across Europe for both the 4G and 5G versions (builds ending with FXJ3 or HXJ3), highlights Samsung’s continued focus on securing its devices. Despite the Galaxy S20 series generally moving away from monthly security updates, the S20 FE still receives them, adding to its lasting appeal for many users.

To install this update on your Galaxy S20 FE, simply go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. You can also manually download it through Samsung’s firmware library, though this process requires a Windows PC and a USB-C cable.

Since the S20 FE received its final major updates with Android 14 and One UI 5.1 last year, these recent updates primarily focus on security. The October patch addresses 30 vulnerabilities within Android and 12 specific to Galaxy devices, as well as issues discovered in certain Samsung Exynos chips. If you’re interested in features beyond security, Samsung’s newly released Galaxy S24 FE could be worth considering, as it comes with seven promised Android OS upgrades and includes Samsung’s latest AI capabilities.

Galaxy Tab S9 Gains Galaxy AI Button Support in One UI 7

Samsung’s upcoming One UI 7 update, set to launch next year, will bring the Galaxy AI Key compatibility to Galaxy Tab S9 devices. This AI button, currently available on the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra’s new Cover Keyboards, allows users to activate their chosen virtual assistant. While these new keyboards are compatible with Galaxy Tab S9 devices, the AI button currently lacks functionality on older models.

However, Samsung confirmed that the One UI 7.0 update will enable this feature on the Galaxy Tab S9 series. The update, showcased in a promotional video, highlights Samsung’s emphasis on extending its AI-driven features to earlier devices. Although this major firmware release will be available next year, the Galaxy Tab S9 series may not be among the first to receive it.

The One UI 7.0 update will not only bring Galaxy AI Key functionality but is also expected to introduce broader enhancements, making it one of Samsung’s most anticipated updates. For now, the Galaxy Tab S9 will continue to offer compatibility with accessories from the Tab S10 lineup, providing a seamless user experience across device generations.
