Samsung Galaxy S25 expected to introduce seamless updates, while One UI 7.1 may roll out post-launch

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series, anticipated for release in early 2025, is set to incorporate some eagerly awaited software improvements, particularly in its update process. The Galaxy S25 may finally introduce “Seamless Updates,” a feature that Google has supported since Android 10. With this functionality, users could install system updates in the background without disrupting phone use, as updates will take place on an unused partition of the phone.

This method not only reduces downtime during updates but also provides a fallback if an update fails, allowing the device to boot from its previous version. Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy A55 already has this capability, making the S25 series potentially the first of Samsung’s flagship models to support it, a step likely to enhance update reliability and user convenience.

On the software front, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S25 with One UI 7.0, rather than the anticipated One UI 7.1, which traditionally would accompany a Galaxy S-series flagship. One UI 7, which will be based on Android 15, focuses on an updated user experience with simplified design elements and refined navigation features.

The decision to release the Galaxy S25 with One UI 7.0 rather than 7.1 aligns with Samsung’s recent shift in approach, where major updates coincide directly with device launches instead of waiting for incremental releases. Samsung is reportedly testing One UI 7.1, which might introduce more AI enhancements and potentially arrive as a post-launch update for the Galaxy S25 series. The shift could suggest that Samsung may opt for annual updates (like One UI 8.0) tied to new Android versions, aiming for efficiency and a streamlined update cadence.

The Galaxy S25 is also expected to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processors globally, with benefits in performance and efficiency, especially in demanding tasks such as gaming and AI processing. With this hardware, the Galaxy S25 series may offer Samsung’s most capable flagship experience to date.
