One UI 7 Update: Samsung camera app changes and feature removals
Samsung’s upcoming One UI 7, based on Android 15, is set to bring significant updates to Galaxy devices. One of the biggest changes involves a redesign of the Camera app and the removal of certain features from the AR Zone. Samsung has confirmed that three AR-related tools—Deco Pic, Quick Measure, and AR Doodle—will no longer be integrated directly within the Camera app. However, users will still have access to these features as standalone apps, which can be downloaded from the Galaxy Store. This separation allows for a lighter Camera app while giving users the option to install these features as needed.
Features Removed from Camera App:
- Deco Pic: Previously available within the Camera app for adding fun stickers and filters, this feature will now be a separate app.
- Quick Measure: This tool, used for measuring object dimensions using the camera, will also be an individual app, leveraging Samsung’s AR technology.
- AR Doodle: Users could previously draw and annotate in real-time using this feature. It will now be accessible as an independent application from the Galaxy Store
Renaming AR Emoji to Galaxy Avatar
In addition to these changes, Samsung is rebranding its AR Emoji feature to Galaxy Avatar. This new avatar customization tool will offer enhanced personalization options and be located under the Settings > Advanced Features section. The rebranding aims to streamline the experience and offer fresh, expressive options for users to create and interact with avatars.
One UI 7 Beta and Upcoming Features
The One UI 7 Beta is expected to launch soon, with early access for select Galaxy devices. The update includes a revamped user interface, enhanced animations, new gesture controls, and a focus on one-handed usability for the Camera app. Users can expect smoother transitions, a redesigned Quick Settings panel, and updated icons, all aimed at enhancing the user experience.
The stable release of One UI 7 is anticipated in early 2025, aligning with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, offering a more refined and user-focused interface based on feedback from the beta program.
This move reflects Samsung’s efforts to refine its software by streamlining the Camera app and enhancing flexibility with optional standalone apps, ultimately giving users more control over their device features while simplifying the core experience
