Samsung’s One UI 7 is set to introduce a mix of exciting updates and a few changes that might disappoint some Galaxy users. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming changes to Edge Panels and the enhancements to Edge Lighting+.
Edge Panels: Major Changes in One UI 7
One UI 7 will remove support for downloading Edge Panels from the Galaxy Store. Samsung has issued a notification confirming that devices running One UI 7 or later will no longer have access to the Edge Panels section in the Galaxy Store.
What Will Happen to Existing Edge Panels?
- Current Panels Remain: Any Edge Panels installed before the One UI 7 update will remain available. You can still access them through the “My Apps” section in the Galaxy Store.
- No Re-download Option: If you uninstall a paid or free Edge Panel after updating to One UI 7, you won’t be able to re-download it—even if you previously purchased it.
What to Do Before Updating?
If you value your Edge Panels, especially the paid ones, ensure they are installed before upgrading. Uninstalling them after the update will result in permanent loss.

Edge Panels Are Not Gone—Yet
The Edge Panel feature itself will remain in One UI 7, but the removal of the Galaxy Store download option could hint at a gradual phase-out. For devices running older versions like One UI 6.1.1, the Galaxy Store for Edge Panels will stay active for now, although Samsung hasn’t specified how long this support will last.
Edge Lighting+: Enhanced in One UI 7
Samsung is also focusing on improving the Edge Lighting+ feature, a favorite among users for its colorful lighting effects during notifications. These enhancements aim to resolve conflicts with other features and introduce new functionality.
Reported Issues with Edge Lighting+
Some users faced problems when using Edge Lighting+ with:
- Prism Lighting: Enabling Edge Lighting+ caused Prism Lighting to stop functioning.
- Double-Tap Notification Pop-Up: Users couldn’t use the double-tap feature alongside Edge Lighting+, leading to frustration.
Samsung’s Fix in One UI 7
A Samsung community moderator acknowledged these issues and confirmed a fix is on the way:
- Users will be able to run Edge Lighting+ and Prism Lighting simultaneously without conflicts.
- The double-tap notification pop-up will also work seamlessly with Edge Lighting+.
This fix is expected to roll out in mid-December 2024, as part of the One UI 7 update. Samsung apologized for the inconvenience and assured users of a smoother experience with the improved Edge Lighting+ feature.
What to Expect from One UI 7
With One UI 7, Samsung continues to refine its user experience, balancing feature updates with necessary changes. While the removal of Edge Panel downloads from the Galaxy Store may disappoint some users, the enhancements to Edge Lighting+ demonstrate Samsung’s commitment to improving functionality and addressing user feedback.
Stay tuned for more updates as Samsung rolls out One UI 7 in the coming weeks.
